About our school

Open Circle Co-op Preschool (previously Seattle’s Progressive Preschool) is a cooperative preschool emphasizing diversity, environmental learning, and social awareness.

Our goal is to prepare children for educational success, while guiding them to become thoughtful, proactive adults who believe that they can make the world a fairer and greener home for everyone.

DIVERSITY
Open Circle supports a diverse classroom in terms of economics, culture, and family structure. We reserve slots and financial aid for those with limited means. We strive to maintain a culturally competent school and emphasize anti-bias lessons in our curriculum. We welcome all families, whether they be headed by single parents, same-sex couples, or kinship care guardians.

ENVIRONMENT
Environmental stewardship drives our choices, including our purchases, our proximity to transit, and our service activities. Urban agriculture will continue to be a focus via a p-patch alliance that encompasses educational garden tours, planting, upkeep, and generating compost for the garden.

SOCIAL JUSTICE
Children of a very young age have an inherent sense of what is fair. Open Circle’s curriculum strives to nurture that nascent ability and to teach children how to be generous and kind citizens. Open Circle families work with their teacher to select and implement service themes that teach our children to care for and improve our community

Open Circle is affiliated with Seattle Central Community College.

Families benefit from mentoring and instructions by experts in child development and parenting. As part of our affiliation, tuition includes monthly parent education, with families choosing which topics are most relevant to them.
